Current position and responsibilities
Eric Tomlinson is Senior Vice President & Group Head of Debit Product Management in Europe. Mr. Tomlinson is responsible for managing the European Debit Project & Development team & for the MasterCard portfolio of debit brands; Maestro, Debit MasterCard and Cirrus. He is a key figure to MasterCard’s Debit Centre of Excellence, which is based in Waterloo, Belgium.





Previously held positions, including internal MasterCard positions
A native South African, Mr. Tomlinson comes to the Debit Centre of Excellence with a distinguished career in banking. Prior to his current responsibilities, Mr. Tomlinson was responsible for retail banking and the Group Card Division, for ABSA, the largest retail bank in South Africa. He has also served as head of personal operations at Standard Bank, introducing a restructured banking model for the personal market, based on customer focused segments.

Professional organization affiliation (including any board memberships)
Mr. Tomlinson has been closely associated with MasterCard since 1994, when he began serving as a director on the Middle East/Africa board, with a break in 1997/8. He also joined the Maestro International Board in 1998, as an alternate, and later as director representing the Middle East/Africa Region.

Educational profile
A qualified Chartered Accountant, Mr. Tomlinson brings with him experience in many aspects of payments, from a member bank perspective. As debit is expected to play a key role in achieving MasterCard’s objective of becoming a leader in payment solutions, this experience will be essential to the Debit Centre of Excellence and MasterCard members globally.
